Community Solar Programme Update

The 20th solar photovoltaic (PV) installation has been completed and comprises fourteen REC 240W panels and one SB3000HF inverter to make a 3.36kWp solar system. This system will produce an estimated 2,157kWh of energy each year, giving £934 of tax-free income annually from the government-backed Feed in Tariff scheme. This will give the homeowner an impressive 11.1% return on their investment; a rate significantly higher than that of any bank, alongside significantly reducing their non-renewable energy usage.

The Government has brought forward the date for new solar installations to receive the maximum Feed in Tariff. The cut-off date was due to be 31st March 2012, but is now 12th December 2011.

This has had a significant impact on the Snitterfield scheme, as the rush to install before the deadline has meant some folk will not be in a position to install by the new date.

However, our dedicated Snitterfield installer Eco2solar have created a new package for our community scheme offering the new 21p FITs which will still provide an impressive average 10% return on investment, alongside an average 10 year payback period (based on a 4kWp, south facing, 30° solar PV installation).

October 2011-The open event at the village hall was a great success with 12 more folk wanting quotations through the discount scheme. Sam, our rep from Eco2solar didn’t have a break for the two hours he was with us and had a non stop flurry of folk with questions for him. It was a great success with plenty of tea and cake. Thank you to those who came to support the event, especially those who have had systems installed already and were on hand to chat to potential recruits to the scheme.

September 2011-There are currently 17 solar pv installations that have been completed through the Snitterfield Community Solar Scheme, with a further 20 or so at the survey or quotation stage.

Time is running out to benefit from the maximum Feed in Tariff rate which will reduce from April 1st 2012 for installations made after that date.

Our dedicated solar installer will be coming to Snitterfield village hall on Saturday October 1st between 3 and 5pmto answer any questions you may have. (see ‘coming up’ on the right of this page).

The village hall installation of a 4kWp system is planned for the end of the year subject to planning permission.

July 2011 – HELP US RAISE £3750.

STOP PRESS! We have raised £1900 but need a further £1850. You can donate via the donate icon on this page.

As well as offering a bulk discount incentive Eco2solar will install a FREE 2.1kWp system at the village hall for every 10 domestic installations. With lots of installations underway we are on target for the free system. SACC would like to upgrade this to a 4kWp system. The income generated from this via the Feed in Tariffs will be ploughed back into more energy saving measures for the hall and the village, and will also greatly reduce the halls electricity bill.

June 2011 Printer cartridges and mobile phone recycling is now available at the village shop. All proceeds raised this year will go to the village hall energy efficiency and solar panel project.

May 2011 Battery Recycling is now available located outside the village hall for the household batteries including, All portable dry cell batteries, Lap top batteries, Mobile phone batteries, Power tool batteries, Lantern batteries, Normal household batteries including hearing aid batteries. NO CAR BATTERIES PLEASE

April 2011 Fourteen households are progressing with the community solar project. All households have received personalised quotes from the chosen solar installer as shorlisted by the EST and residents. We are benefitting from a significant discount through this bulk purchase scheme. And, with at least ten residents progressing and having pv solar panels installed, the village hall will benefit from a solar pv installation free of charge too.

We are fundraising to improve energy efficiency at the village hall too and you can donate to this good cause by using the donate button on this page.

Jan 2011 BRING AND BUY sale at Snitterfield Village Hall This was a great success. Bargain hunters were refreshed by homemade soup and cakes! ALL PROCEEDS TO OUR MAIN PROJECT FOR THE COMING YEAR TO IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND INSTALL PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR PANELS ON THE VILLAGE HALL.
