The event proved to be a success with 1 in 6 villages attending. The day offered support and advice on how to reduce and measure your Carbon Footprint. The exhibitors offered a range of services including Sustainable windows, the latest technology in energy efficient light bulbs, a local washable nappy service, a display on composting (and the chance to purchase compost bins), plus Fair-Trade goods and representatives from Friends of the Earth. The Warwickshire Energy Efficiency teams were on site to provide excellent energy saving tips. There was a domestic wind turbine to see, and advice on changing your energy supplier to a renewable tariff.

The children were entertained with plenty of activities including face painting and creating a giant paper tree which was made using paper cut-out's of villager's footprints for the leaves. This is currently on display in the village hall.
There was also the judging of the children's competition to design the group's logo. The winners were Morton Schmidt-Hansen and Catherine Hillier.

The global Carbon Footprint competition attracted 30 entrants but no one got all the answers correct! This will be available again at the village fete.

The event was supported by a fantastic service from Snitterfield WI, who served free drinks and cake all day.

Carbon Footprint Calculator , Back to Top

We also had a Carbon Footprint calculator designed by the group, which measured residents' carbon footprints. Eighteen households participated on the day and the results below refer to the tonnes of CO2 produced per annum per family.

The lowest was 11 tonnes p.a. for a family of 2 (5.5 per householder).
The highest was 99 tonnes p.a. for a family of 2 (49.5 per householder).
The average was 44.3 tonnes p.a. for a family of 3.2 (14 per householder).
This figure needs to be reduced to 1.5 tonnes per annum per householder to achieve stability (source: www.quakergreenaction.org.uk)
